Saturday, January 12, 2008
Real Mallorca took the upper hand in their Copa del Rey fifth round clash with the champions Real Madrid thanks to a 2-1 first leg triumph.
Real Madrid, who went into the match without a host of senior players due to injury, were over-run by their hosts in the opening stages on Thursday, Media Pro reported.
Oscar Trejo opened the scoring for the hosts after 23 minutes and, although Gonzalo Higuain restored parity two minutes later, substitute Juan Arango struck five minutes into the second half to give Mallorca the edge.
َAt the final whistle, Real Mallorca emerged 2-1 victors and will take a one goal advantage into next week's return leg at the Bernabeu Stadium.
