| Real still tracking Drogba
Sunday, May 18, 2008
Real Madrid are still keeping tabs on Chelsea striker Didier Drogba according to a report in the Madrid press.
Drogba seems set to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer and although his most likely destination seems to be Milan, with both Inter and AC interested, 'Marca' insists that Real Madrid are still in the running for his signature.
The Ivorian striker admitted earlier this week that he met with AC Milan officials in 2006 to talk about a possible transfer to the San Siro and that he would love to play for the club if the chance arose to do so at any points during his career.
Milan are likely to undergo a rebuilding process over the summer having already clinched the signing of Mathieu Flamini from Arsenal and Drogba is thought to be one of their primary targets as they search for a strong striker to lead the line alongside Alexandre Pato.
Inter have also previously been linked with Drogba, with rumours still suggesting that he could follow Jose Mourinho to the Nerazzurri if Roberto Mancini is relieved of his duties as coach at the end of the season.
Despite the interest from the Italian clubs, it seems that Madrid are confident that they are in with a shout of obtaining Drogba's signature, although all transfer dealings have been put on hold while they assess the possibility of bringing Cristiano Ronaldo to the Bernabeu.
Manchester United winger Ronaldo indicated in an interview on Thursday that he may consider his future following the Champions League final with Chelsea this coming Wednesday and Madrid will wait to here of any developments on the Ronaldo front before plunging themselves into talks with other players.
