| Calderon admits Ronaldo move impossible
Wednesday, June 04, 2008
Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has admitted that signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United now appears impossible.
The Portuguese striker's transfer "is a wish that is no longer possible as the club has said it will not sell him," he told the Marca sports daily published Monday.
"Talking anymore about this will only harm relations between the clubs," he said, referring to the transfer saga that has turned increasingly bitter in recent weeks.
Spanish media have said Ronaldo may take the advice of Portugal's Brazilian coach Luiz Felipe Scolari and decide to join the Spanish champions for next season.
It said the striker could announce a decision "in 48 hours".
But Calderon appeared pessimistic. "Whatever Cristiano says, Manchester will not sell," he said.
Real have been desperate to sign Ronaldo despite United's refusal to listen to offers for the Portuguese star.
Manchester United threatened to report Real to FIFA over what it sees as attempt to unsettle the star, a move which prompted the Spanish champions to back off. |
