Real to sign Angel Di Maria
Friday, June 25, 2010
Real Madrid are closing in on Benfica winger Angel di Maria, according to a report in publication AS.
The gifted midfielder has been strongly linked with a transfer to Madrid after an impressive season at Benfica which caught the eye of new coach Jose Mourinho.
The two clubs have been involved in negotiations for over two weeks now, with Benfica playing hard-ball over the transfer fee as they stand firm on their €40 million valuation of the player.
But fresh reports in Spain suggest Di Maria will sign for the Merengues for just €25m, with no players from Madrid's youth ranks involved in the deal.
News daily AS claims that everything has been settled since June 16th, and that the only thing left is for Benfica president, Luis Filipe Vieira, to sign the transfer agreement and report it to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission, which could happen only next month.
Di Maria, who is part of Argentina's World Cup squad, joined Benfica from Rosario Central in 2007 for €8m.
