Real Madrid agreed to sign Argentina winger Angel Di Maria on a six-year contract from Portuguese club Benfica on Tuesday.
The Spanish giant paid 25 million euros (C$32 million) for Di Maria, Benfica said in a statement to the Lisbon stock exchange.
Benfica said it could receive up to an additional five million euros (C$6.4 million) depending on the number of matches Di Maria plays at Madrid and a further six million euros (C$7.6 million) based on his achievements, without providing any more details.
The 22-year-old Di Maria, who has been a regular in Argentina's midfield at the World Cup in South Africa, became the first signing by new Madrid coach Jose Mourinho.
Di Maria won last season's league title with Benfica, as well as two Portuguese League Cups.
He was a world under-20 championship winner and an Olympic gold medallist with Argentina.
Di Maria began his career at Rosario Central before moving to Portugal in 2007. |
