Career Summary |
Francisco Pavón Barahona , nicknamed Paco Pavón (born January 9, 1980 in Madrid) is a Spanishfootballdefender, who currently plays for Real Madrid.
Pavón lives up to the ideal central defender: strong, tall and athletic. He is a player that came from the reserves and has a bright future. He came from playing the Real Madrid Social Tournament and ever since has been through all the reserve teams. Now he has settled in the first team playing against top-class forwards and he has done well.
His Real Madrid record kicks off at the Social Tournament with the children's team called "Tendillo". It was in the 1990-91 and he has been climbing up the ladder very fast: children's B & A, teenagers B & A, juniors C, B and A, Third Division... He got promoted to the Second Division B team to earn a first-choice position very soon. The injuries suffered by the central defenders of the first team gave him a chance to make a debut with Vicente Del Bosque's boys against Atletico Madrid at the Bernabéu, on October 6, 2001. The reserve would not let the chance slip out of his hands, as he became a professional footballer in his own right a few months later. His name was part of the "Pavons and Zidanes" slogan to refer to the club's policy: great footballers and reserves.
